What is Grubhub?

Grubhub is an online and mobile food ordering and delivery service, customers can order from their favorite local restaurants. It is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois and has partnered with over 245,000 restaurants in thousands of cities across the country. It merged with a company called Seamless, another online food ordering and delivery service, in 2013 to expand their business and partnerships. Grubhub is one of the more popular food delivery platforms and has decently high ratings. A few company statistics are listed below:

  • Provided nearly $6 billion in gross food sales to local takeout restaurants in 2019
  • Processes more than 668,000 daily orders
  • Serves 30 million active diners
  • Sent more than $3 billion in total tips to drivers

Delivering for GrubHub is an easy and quick way to make some extra spending money in your spare time!

How do you make deliveries for Grubhub?

In order to become a Grubhub courier, there are a few requirements to consider before applying:

  • Car (or bike in select areas)
  • Valid driver’s license and auto insurance for drivers
  • Valid state I.D. or driver’s license for bike riders
  • Smartphone (iPhone with iOS 11 or later or Android with 5.0 or later)
  • All drivers must also be at least 19 years of age

Grubhub is different from other food delivery apps because drivers can receive orders from both GrubHub and Seamless customers which leads to more orders and earning more with multiple order requests at the same time.

To begin, apply for Grubhub here by filling out your name, email address and phone number. Then you will have to fill out your city, state and type of vehicle being used to make deliveries. Lastly, you will be asked to take a survey regarding your eligibility to become a courier. If you’re approved, you can create your driver profile and begin the onboarding process! Throughout the process, new drivers will learn about the company, how to make deliveries, scheduling time blocks, tips for making deliveries and getting paid. Once you have finished the onboarding experience and have received your insulated Grubhub bag, you’re ready to go!

When you start making deliveries, it’s important to remember that you should schedule time blocks ahead of time so you are sure to be able to work. This isn’t required but it will ensure priority if you have a scheduled block of time.

Making deliveries

To begin making deliveries, go to the Grubhub app on your phone and change your status from “Unavailable” to “Taking Offers.” When an order comes though, you will receive a notification to accept or decline it with a 90 second timer. After you accept an order, the Grubhub app will provide you with directions to the restaurant ordered from. Once there, confirm your arrival on the app and let the restaurant know you are there for an order with Grubhub. Pick up your order, click “Got Order” and Leaving” in the app to let the customer know you’re on your way and follow the directions to the customer’s address. Drop off the order and tap “Delivered” in the app to complete that order. It’s easy!
