Complete Review: Working as a Delivery Driver for UberEats
So, what is UberEats?
UberEats is quickly becoming one of the fastest-growing food delivery companies in the world. If not already obvious, this delivery service was designed from the existing rideshare app “Uber.” It is based out of San Francisco and was established in 2014—making it one of the later on-demand food delivery platforms. However, it has still quickly become very popular since launching. UberEats allows customers to order from their favorite local restaurants easily and quickly. Their goal is to make eating well effortless for everyone, everywhere. Delivering for UberEats is an easy and convenient way to make some extra spending money in your spare time!
How do you make deliveries for Uber Eats?
Delivering for UberEats is simple. You can get started by downloading the app, “Uber Driver,” creating an account and following the application process within the app.
There are specific requirements when it comes to being an UberEats delivery driver. The requirements are as follows:
- You must have a valid driver’s license, personal auto insurance, and proof of vehicle registration
- 1 year of driving experience
- You must be 19 years of age or older
- Pass a background check
- Be able to lift up to 30 pounds
When you’re ready to get started making deliveries, log on to the app and switch your status from offline to online. Once you’re online, you’ll begin to receive order notifications for nearby restaurants. When an order pops up on your screen, accept it and follow the navigation directions to the restaurant to pick up the customer’s order. You may get more than one order at once if the restaurants ordered from are close to one another.
After you arrive at the restaurant, let the staff know you have arrived and tell them the name of the order you are picking up. Once you have picked up the customer’s order, confirm your pick-up and drive to the drop-off location provided in the app. When you have arrived at the drop-off location, make sure to follow any specific instructions noted by the customer, drop off their order and confirm your delivery. You are able to contact the customer as well if necessary.
How much do delivery drivers for Uber Eats get paid?
UberEats drivers make about $8-$12 an hour. The pay model for delivering for UberEats is as follows:
- Base fare (your pay for pickup, drop-off, time, and distance)
- Trip supplement (added based on time and distance to help make every trip worthwhile)
- Promotion period boosts (specific days and time frames when extra earnings are offered)
- Tips (100% of tips you earn belong to you and are always an addition to your earnings) = Total amount earned
Trip supplements and promotions will vary depending on the order but can greatly boost your earnings! Additionally, if a customer gives you a tip, you will receive a tip notification about one hour after you have dropped off their order. After you have completed the delivery, you will be able to see how much you have earned in the “Earnings” tab in the app.

Cons of delivering for Uber Eats
Waiting time at restaurants
Occasionally, the customer’s order will not be ready when you arrive at the restaurant. This can be very frustrating, especially when you are picking up multiple orders at a time and are being paid for mileage, not time.
Not receiving a tip
This is one of the most frustrating cons because you are taking time to pick up someone’s order and deliver it to them so not being given a tip makes the job feel unproductive at times.
Occasional lack of orders
Every so often you may find yourself driving around for longer periods of time without receiving any orders. To avoid this, try to work during high demand hours such as lunch or dinner.
Wear and tear on vehicle
It may seem obvious but make sure to regularly check your vehicle’s maintenance to ensure there are no issues when making deliveries. With driving, especially as a job, natural deterioration of your vehicle is inevitable so it’s important to consider the wear and tear on your car.
